Our new album is out today! You can pick up a physical copy straight from Bellyache Records, or get a digital version via iTunes, Amazon, or any other place you can buy crushed bits of data to play on your portable music device.

We’re streaming the album via our Bandcamp site, so feel free to listen to it about a million times. We recommend checking it out on the treadmill for maximum workout jamage.

Thanks to everybody that has helped us get this record out - Scotty Hagen at Bellyache, Mike Bridavsky, Bob Weston, and our families and friends for supporting us. We hope to see ya’ll at the Lager House this Friday to celebrate.

We’ve got some shows coming up next week. Here are the fliers for them…

After these gigs, we might lay low for a bit. However, we’re going to hit the road a few times in May, June, and July. Right now, dates are being firmed up, so stay tuned for confirmations… though we can tell you right now that on May 18th, we’ll be in Chicago @ Quenchers w/ Geronimo!, Meat Wave, and Hospital Garden - a fucking amazing lineup, and we suggest listening to all these bands immediately. And on June 29th, we’ll be making our debut in NYC, at Brooklyn’s famed Death By Audio loft. To say that we’re excited to get out of town and play for strangers and relocated friends alike would be an understatement. Also, be on the lookout for us to announce our Detroit LP release show lineup, date, and venue soon.

In new record news, our LP is in the beginning stages of being mastered. We should have that back in the coming week, and may perhaps post a song from it in the not too distant future. Artwork is almost done, and we shot a video with the help of Scott Allen and our good friend Mikey Dew last weekend that should see the light of day in the next month or two. Shit is coming together right now, and we are really looking forward to sharing our new record with everybody!

SOME NEW RECORD NEWZ

Sup ya’ll.

So here’s some news about our new record, in an easy to digest bullet point format:

• The new record will once again be released by Bellyache Records. They put out our first one, and we’re real tight bros. We are very excited about this.

• It’ll come out on vinyl, with a possible limited-run CD. The digital download will be available on Bandcamp, with a download code inside the record sleeve. We will surely use iTunes, etc., as well.

• The very talented Bob Weston is mastering the album in January, 2013. This is also very awesome and exciting. He’s in Shellac, in case you are dumb.

• Oh, it’s gonna be self-titled. There’s reasons why. We’ll tell you one day.

• We’re also stoked to announce press will be handled by Riot Act Media. We are in great company there.

• We’re hesitant on announcing an actual release date, so we’ll keep you posted on that noise. Right now, let’s just say it’ll be available when it starts getting warmer next year. Release shows, possible out of town shows, and whatever else, will be announced, you know, whenever we feel like it.

• Thanks to everyone who has helped make this another awesome year for our band. We’ve been really fortunate to play with bands we really dig, play in front of a lot of new faces, and record another album of songs with an awesome producer and friend (Mr. Mike Bridavsky) that we can’t wait for you to hear next year. So thank you!

Hi dudes.

We have a show Friday. Here’s the FB invite. It’s at a house. In Warren. Pretty stoked to play a new place/with different bands, etc. All Eyes West sound especially up our alley, plus, the guitarist from Seaweed is playing with them on this tour, which is pretty rad.

In album number 2 news, we’re hoping to announce label, mastering, and press info in the next month or so. It’s looking like it’ll be out between March and May 2013, depending on some variables. It’ll be worth the wait, though. It’s the best thing we’ve ever done.

Blogging about the recording of an album isn’t really all that exciting. You go in, you play your songs, you play some more stuff on top of your songs, you sing, you mix it a little bit, and that’s about it.

In more entertaining news, we met the famous Lil Bub last night. She was squirmy and strange, and all together adorable. We, of course, took our picture with her, so if you start noticing our popularity start to skyrocket, it’s because of this cat, and not our music.

It should be noted that the album is really coming along quite nicely, and it basically sounds like music made by 4 guys who know what they fuck they are doing. And Mr. Bridavsky is doing a splendid job capturing us in the wild. We can’t wait for you guys to check it out!

Album 2: Day 2

Day 2 started slightly hungover for a few of us. We went out and saw a few bands the night before, including Mike Adams & His Honest Weight, who were great in a Harvey Danger/Weezer/nerd-rock type way (Sean’s quote, “They were like Best Buy, the band”… but he meant it as a compliment).

We spent most of our day tracking the remaining 7 songs live, because that’s what real-as-fuck-bands do. No robots were involved. Once full tracking was finished, Ryan spent the rest of the night doubling his guitars, having his pick of his own axes (Rickenbacker 360 and a Fender Blacktop Jazzmaster) and a few others lying around (including a sweet Guild, a cheap but kinda cool Squire Jaguar, and this metal - as in, made of metal - guitar called an Electrical that Steve Albini plays in Shellac). Things sounded tough coming out of a Sovtek head and a Marshal cab (sorry for all the gear talk, as I actually have no idea what I’m talking about).

Somewhere in the middle, we ordered calzones, contemplated whether it was a good idea or not to also get mac and cheese (we did), and debated the importance of including or not including stick clicks in a song (2 for, 3 against, decision TBA).

ALBUM 2: DAY 1

As the work day came to a close, some of us rushed home to let out our dogs and tend to our cats. Others sped back to kiss our kids goodbye. There was no doubt: the four of us were gonna be away for longer than usual. 6 days, to be exact. One day of travel, 5 to track our newest record. A six-and-a-half hour drive, a forgotten air mattress, some equipment to load, a gas tank to fill, and a swift stop at a Downriver Subway was all that was standing in our way to get to Bloomington, Indiana. Our destination: Russian Recordings. Our co-conspirator - Mike Bridavsky; owner of the beloved Bub - a celebrity cat on the level of Garfield or Heathcliff, except, um, real. But also a talented record maker and engineer. We knew him before Vice Magazine had his email address. But we’re glad we can say we still know him since his newfound fame - he’s still as committed and level headed as ever - determined to make a great record with and for us.

We pulled in to Bloomington around 1:30 a.m. - super late for us Dads and dudes in our mid-30s (an ideal night at this point is hardly filled with wee-hours debauchery), and we met met Mr. Bridavsky in a zombie-ish state. We talked a bit about the Bub phenom, and sooner than later, split up to our respective sleeping locals to get as much slumber in as possible.

The next morning, some of us woke up to various cats making a semi-permanant home on their bodies. Others, most likely, arose to the sound of their own farts. Around 10:30, we commenced setting up our jam weapons. Guitars were un-sheathed and mounted on stands. Chords, sticks, picks, pedals, cymbals, and other gadgets were pulled from their coffins and set up, lights blinking, metal shimmering in the light. We needed to make time to mic up our stations, so we took off to devour bagels, and then hit up the local grocery to stock up on lunch selections for the week.

Once we returned, we played with sound. Moved the drums to the dead room. Picked out our amps. Played with bass tones. Some things worked. Some things did not. Drums were relocated. Amps switched out. Monday’s bass, at one point, here, then gone, replaced by something John Paul Jones may have felt a kinship with. All that you can do, at this point, is try. Try to find the best fit. It’s like trying on jeans, except less stiff, and more abstract. Soon, though, we were ready to “lay it down” as they say.

First up, “Like Mice” - a moody, minor key number formulated from a jam that just fell into place. The follow up was “Absorb You” - one of the last songs we learn for the record, with a My Bloody Valentine meets Wipers vibe. Bridavsky disagreed with the Wipers bit. Then, we moved on to “Tight Sleeves” - our most intricate and complicated - and the first to use a click track. Then we finally settled with “Wake Up Time” - perhaps one of the more accessible tracks from our collection.

SHOW HIATUS/NEW ALBUM NEWS

So after yesterday’s blazing hot, storm-accompanied, pig-filled drunk fest, we’re officially on a hiatus from shows so we can finish writing our next album. We’re recording it in early August down in Bloomington, Indiana, again with trusty sound wizard Mike Bridavsky at the helm. His Russian Recording studio is a gem, and we can’t wait to get back there to lay shit down (and to meet the famous Bub, an alien cat that has his own t-shirt). The next one should have 10 or 11 songs on it (we still have a few to finish up), and expect it to be more aggressive and weird, yet still melodic and high energy. If you are under the age of 20, you’ll probably hate it. If you are over the age of, say, 32, you might like it. Either way, it’s gonna come out and hopefully somebody besides our moms will check it out.

We’ll probably blog about our progress as we record, so keep your eyes on this space if you want to know about what kind of hijinks a bunch of 30-something dads will get into while recording an album (prediction: none… but we will eat hot dogs).

RIP Angel Busque

From our bassist, Monday Busque:

“It is with a heavy heart that I must say that on June 8th, 2012, that my beloved sister Angelica Mary Busque passed away due to complications with her lupus condition. Please have her in your thoughts as she was one of the best human beings I have ever known.”

Angel was incredibly talented, funny, sweet, kind, a lover of art and music, and a huge supporter of our band. She will be dearly missed.
